Black Label Range

Marlborough Black Label Riesling Auslese 2024

A full-bodied style with a long, sweet finish, this Riesling has a diverse spectrum of aromas and flavours. Lime, lemon zest, ripe stone fruit along with honey and allspice notes from noble rot affected berries. The palate has crisp acidity typical of Riesling which nicely counterbalances a moderately sweet and oily palate structure.

Viticulture

The Marlborough 2024 harvest saw exceptionally good conditions, resulting in high quality grapes throughout the region. Mild conditions through spring and early summer saw moderate to low crops set. Continuing warm dry conditions through summer saw optimal fruit development and healthy, disease-free grapes. Flavour development and acid retention were enhanced by a perfect combination of sunny days and cool, clear nights. With years of viticultural expertise within the family to draw on, and perfect conditions, fruit was harvested at peak flavour balance. Overall, 2024 is anticipated to be one of the very best years Marlborough has seen in recent times.

The 44 year old Riesling vines in the Moorlands vineyard have produced consistently flavoursome grapes over many years. The ideal conditions during 2024 allowed for fruit to hang on the vine for an extended time, gaining ripeness and flavour. A select portion of vineyard showed the development of berry shrivel and noble rot, perfect for a richer, sweeter style of wine.

Vinification

With a talented and enthusiastic team of international superstars in the winery, this harvest provided an opportunity to showcase the very best flavours of an exceptional vintage.

Several weeks after the main harvest had finished, grapes were picked in the cool of early morning and gently pressed to tank. A long slow fermentation continued until the wines balance of sweetness, acidity and alcohol was judged to be perfectly delicious.
